The Christmas Tree lights in Churchtown were switch-on by Churchtown and District Whit Festival Queen Ellis Singleton on 29th November, accompanied by her retinue. Despite the awful weather there was a good turn out, all wrapped up well against the cold, rain and wind. The first of the trees is on the lawn outside the Horns Inn and marks a gateway onto the village. From there the procession continued to Church Square where both Churchtown and Catterall Queens turned on the Christmas Tree lights and the crib. A number of carols were sung on the night and Reverend Andrew Wilkinson blessed the trees and the crib. This marks the start of the festive season as 29th November is advent Sunday and the trees will remain illuminated until twelfth nigh, 6th January, 2016.
